非洲國家馬拉威緊鄰一個大湖泊，馬拉威將這個湖稱作「馬拉威湖」。馬拉威湖長約580公里，比台灣還長喲！然而，不像台灣如同番薯般胖胖的形狀，馬拉威湖是狹長型的湖泊，最寬處只有75公里。儘管如此，馬拉威湖面積還是高達29,600平方公里，哇！幾乎等於台灣土地面積的80%，真的是很大的湖耶！
馬拉威湖還有一個美麗的名稱：星之湖（The Lake of Stars）。有人說，那是因為湖面上的漁船燈火就像是天上繁星點點。而在湖面下，馬拉威湖中有數百種當地物種，其中豐富的魚類資源，是湖區居民重要的食物來源。馬拉威湖美麗的沙灘及島嶼，也吸引了許多馬拉威人和國際遊客，每到旅遊旺季都到這裡度假，從事潛水、駕船、划水、露營等活動，可以說是馬拉威最著名的旅遊景點之一。馬拉威是不是跟你想像的非洲不太一樣呢？
The African country of Malawi sits next to a large lake, called Lake Malawi. Lake Malawi is about 580 kilometers long, which is longer than Taiwan! But while Taiwan is shaped like a fat sweet potato, Lake Malawi is long and narrow, only 75 kilometers at its widest point.
However, Lake Malawi has an area of 29,600 square kilometers! That is almost 80% the size of Taiwan’s land area. It’s a really big lake! Lake Malawi has a beautiful name: The Lake of Stars. Some say it is because the lights of fishing boats on the lake are like a starry sky. Lake Malawi has hundreds of species of local fish. The lake is an important source of food for lake residents. There are also beautiful beaches and islands. Every tourist season, a lot of local and international visitors come here to enjoy diving, sailing, paddling, camping and other activities. This makes Malawi one of the most famous tourist attractions. It is not quite how you imagine Africa, is it?
